Rules!

TO BECOME AN AKC LICENSED CLUB & HOLD HUNTS

Before holding your AKC coonhound event, be sure to check with your state authorities to determine if permits are required. For permit contact information in your state, Click Here.

Clubs wanting to hold the new nite hunts, bench shows, field trials or water races which go into effect April 1st will need to be AKC licensed before they can apply for their new hunt dates.

Established clubs can apply to become AKC licensed by obtaining a Club Packet. You can either email your request to: coonhounds@akc.org and you will be sent a hard copy, or you can download the items in your packet listed below.

This packet will contain the following items:

  • 4 Page Club Application: Page 1 Page 2-4
  • Sample Constitution & By Laws
  • Bench Show Judge/ Hunt Director Grandfather Candidates Application
  • Copy of the latest Nite Hunt Regulations
  • (Our regulation books called Regulations for AKC Coonhound Bench Shows, Field Trials, Nite Hunts and Water Races covering all AKC coonhound events are currently being printed and we will announce when they are in)
  • Canine Legislation Liaison Information Flyer
  • Club Contact Person for Legislative Issues Form
  • Additional FSS Registration Applications and Open Registrations (FOR PLOTTS ONLY)
  • Check List and Self Addressed Envelope

“Clubs which were just established within the last six months will need to hold a preliminary hunt (buddy hunt). This is to give the club a practice run on holding a hunt. Use this application to book your preliminary hunt and sent it to Coonhound Events so it can be kept with your club application. Note that no wins earned will go towards a title at a preliminary hunt.” preliminary hunt doc
**The Club Application must be completed and returned in order to be approved.

After a club has completed the application process, they will then receive a letter of approval and be given a club number. At that time event application materials will automatically be mailed so that 2005 dates can be requested.

New event applications, event materials such as scorecards, and event reports are currently being rewritten, designed and printed and will be available soon!

If you have any questions on the process to become an AKC licensed club, please call us and we will walk you through the steps to complete your application.

We appreciate and thank you for your support of this new and exciting program!
